Castroneves takes the checkered flag on "Dancing With The Stars"

Heliojulianne Two time Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves took home the "coveted" mirror ball trophy in the finals of this season's "Dancing With The Stars"

Castroneves and partner Julianne Hough bested Spice Girl Mel B and partner Maksum Chmerkovskiy after Monday nights' final.

Marie Osmond and partner Jonathan Roberts were eliminated early on Tuesday's final results show, taking third place.

Castroneves and Mel B were neck and neck in the finals on Monday, with the Brazilian race car driver sitting just one point behind the Spice Girl after the judges were through with their scoring.

Many fans (and some insiders) think Chmerkovskiy may have cost Mel B - the frontrunner for most of the season after the shocking elimination of Sabrina Bryan a few weeks back -  the title after the syndicated entertainment news show Extra aired a controversal interview on Monday with the pro dancer where he trashed Marie Osmond as not deserving to be in the finals, and basically coming across like a major jerk. While some fans jumped to Maks' defense, most people posting comments on Extra's site following the interview felt that Maks was out of line for criticizing Osmond, who he said was capturing the sympathy vote after a season which found the 48 year old singer fainting during a live show, losing her father suddenly and dealing with the burdens of having her 16 year old son enter rehab. Fans were particularly angry that Chmerkovskiy compared the fact that Mel B's year old child had chicken pox during the show's run to the problems which beset both Osmond and fellow competitor Jane Seymour, who also lost her mother during the run of the show.

The win makes two in a row for Hough, the 19 year old professional dancer teamed with Castroneves - Hough took Olympic gold medalist Apolo Anton Ohno to the trophy last season.

Congrats to Helio and Julianne!

THIS WEEK'S NOTES:

Boy oh boy has there been a TON of Spider-man projects on TV...nine in total so far (and a tenth is in the works)

In chronological order, they are (all links are to Wikipedia's entries on the topics, which is where we got most of our information):

Spider-man, animated, 1967

Spidey Super Stories, live action segment of The Electric Company, 1974

The Amazing Spider-Man, live action, 1978

Supaidamon, live action Japanese adaptation, 1978

Spider-Man, animated, 1981

Spider-Man And His Amazing Friends, animated, 1981

Spider-Man:The Animated Series, animated (duh!), 1994

Spider-man Unlimited, animated, 1999

Spiderman: The NEW Animated Series, animated (duh again!), 2003

Then of course, there are the three movies:

Spider-Man (2002)

Spider-man 2 (2004)

Spider-Man 3 (2007)

It's highly possible that only Superman and Batman have been involved in more projects on TV and in the movies; we'll find that out as we go through the weeks and begin research on the Batman show scheduled as the final installment of this month's HERO HEAT shows.

This Tuesday, on our Trailer Trove segment, we will feature the opening credits for ALL of the above TV series, so don't miss it!

IN OTHER AREAS...

Marvel Vs DC can be found here; they are worth checking out, as most are HILARIOUS, and Mike does a GREAT job with the imitations!

Get well, Jake Brown...you scared the living HELL out of me (and millions of other X Games viewers) on Thursday night

DWTS- APOLO MAKES THE FINALS!

Couple_08 Apolo Anton Ohno and partner Julianne Hough moved one step closer to winning the title on this season's Dancing With The Stars last night, as Ian Ziering got the boot.

PNR and Subject:CINEMA fans know that Kim and I have been pushing for Apolo to win all season, and now we are REALLY gonna need our fans help to make this happen, because the level of competition in the finals is going to be absolutely stunning - the other two finalists are Laila Ali and Joey Fatone.

Remember, you can vote multiple times (I think it's 5 times per phone line in the finals) plus the same number of times per email online on the ABC.com website. Apolo's vote line is 1-800-868-3411, and is open from 8 pm until 1/2 hour after the show is over in each time zone.

PLEASE HELP US HELP APOLO GRAB THE MIRROR BALL - VOTE MONDAY! (and more reminders will follow i'm sure....heh heh heh...)

Subject:CINEMA #51 - You Think We Won't Cover Looney Tunes? Warner Bet?

Sorry this is a little late getting up, I overslept and was actually editing the show until right around noon, then it had to be saved and uploaded...

In the first of two parts, Kim and TC look at the Warner Animation studios, and the classic library of characters therein...

THE SHOW (times may be off slightly due to Podshow insertions):

Segment 1 (1:30) - A brief history of the Warner Animation Studio and it's major players

Segment 2 (25:34) - The Classic Characters, part one

Segment 3 (44:30) - The Classic Characters, part two

Segment 4 (1:03:30) - Hardsell, E-mail

Segment 5 - (1:19:35) - The Classic Characters, part three

THIS WEEKS NOTES:

This show focuses mostly on the CHARACTERS of the Warner studios; in part two, available this coming Wednesday, we'll count down our top 30 Warner shorts of all time!

This show turned out to be so HUGE, and so FUN, that we had to split it into two parts. If we didn't, you'd have been listening for around 4 hours straight. As it was, we cut EVERYTHING out of the hardsell this week except one brief Marquee Mix note and the e-mail. No trivia, no Bonehead this week, they'll return (or at least the Bonehead will) next Saturday!

Watch the site tomorrow for my review of Spiderman 3!

Th-th-th-that's all, folks!

Subject:CINEMA #48 - Wrestling With Acting Skills - Pro Wrestling In The Movies!

This week we're covering the world of professional wrestling and how it has had an impact on the big screen. The show ran a little longer than we anticipated - even editing it down, it still comes in at a whopping 1:45! But if you're a wrestling fan, like us, you will love it, and we hope even those S:C Fans who aren't into wrestling will appreciate our look at wrestling in popular culture!

THE SHOW (times may be off slightly due to Podshow insertions):

Segment 1 (1:44)- Pro wrestling in general; how we got into wrestling; why wrestlers sometimes have an easier transition into acting than stars of other sports

Segment 2 (19:38) - Wrestlers who have been actors on film or TV - Hulk Hogan, Andre The Giant, Kevin Nash, Roddy Piper, Jesse Ventura; brief mention of Rollerjam

Segment 3 (35:35) - Wrestling and Kids TV; Shannon "SnowPea" Moore; More acting wrestlers - The Rock, Sean Waltman, Jerry Lynn, Christopher Daniels, Terry Funk, Shawn Michaels, Joanie "Chyna" Laurer; Movies about wrestling - No Holds Barred, Over The Top (well, not really), Ready To Rumble, Beyond The Mat; The career of El Santo; more recent efforts from John Cena and Kane; George "The Animal" Steele

Segment 4 (55:40) - Marquee Mix revamp; Swag Shop; Podlinez; Bloglet; Yahoo Groups; Dancing With The Stars; Sanjaya; E-Mail; Trivia Challenge; Bonehead Of The Week (listen up, TNA!)

Segment 5 (1:18:16) - THE LIST - those wrestlers in today's shows that we think could have a shot at film stardom in the not-too-distant future, if they play their cards right...

THIS WEEKS NOTES:

Obviously there are a LOT of wrestlers who have acted that we didn't get a chance to mention on the show, and we certainly mean them no slight....

Also, thanks to all the wrestling fans who might have dropped by this week because of the subject matter; we hope you stick around a long time!

The length of the show this week was incredible, and shows how much we like wrestling as a form of entertainment, and that it often provokes debate between the two of us. It may be a while to commit to, but listen in segments and you'll get through the whole thing!

NEXT WEEK:

Wednesday - Art House Confidential

Saturday - Summer Blockbuster Preview

April 17, 2007

THIS WEEK'S NOTES:

The ABC Mystery Movie, mentioned in the first segment, was made up of, in addition to new Columbo movies with Peter Falk, new Kojak movies with Telly Savalas, and two new elements, Gideon Oliver with Lou Gossett, and B.L. Striker starring Burt Reynolds.

For information on the UK series, Cluedo, based on the board game Clue, check out this IMDB entry - if this is out in the US on DVD, and someone knows where we can get it, please LET US KNOW!

For more information on the life and tragic death of the winner of Fox TV's Murder In Small Town X, Angel Juarbe Jr, click here and here; because of the show, we both felt like we sort-of knew him (in that TV sort of way) and thus had a personal stake in the disasters of 9/11. Gracias, Amigo...you and your brethren will NEVER be forgotten....

Also, I'm A FIRST CLASS IDIOT... I guess we should have given ME the "Bonehead Of The Week" award...I have been giving the new toll-free hotline WRONG on my readings of it now and the past several shows...it's 1-888-214-9311, NOT 243 as i've been saying, I don't know how that bonehead mistake got by me for three friggin' weeks....sorry....

CLIP OF THE WEEK!

We managed to find that clip of Vincent Price explaining cricket on You Tube again, so here it is. It's actually from Charters and Caldicott, and NOT Mystery!, as Kim had thought...ENJOY!

NEXT WEEK: "Good EEEEEEvening! The Films of Alfred Hitchcock...be there....

March 17, 2007

Subject:CINEMA #43 - There Is Nothing Like THE Dame...Agatha Christie In The Movies (and tv...)

Hoo boy, was this one fun! We're both HUGE Agatha Christie fans, and this was a show we've been looking forward to for a while. We go indepth about the TV and Movie adaptations of Dame Christie's work.

THE SHOW (times may be slightly off due to Podshow insertions):

Segment 1 (1:30) - An overview of Dame Agatha Christie's work; Partners In Crime
Segment 2 (19:00) - The fastidious Belgian detective, Hercule Poirot

(yay!); note to Mark Shields; E-mail - actually a voice mail (yay again!); Trivia Challenge;  Bonehead of the Week
Segment 5 (1:18:53) - Two Christie stories that have been filmed multiple times - Witness For The Prosecution and And Then There Were None/Ten Little Indians

THIS WEEKS NOTES:

This show was a bit crazy, due to the fact that I badly sliced my left index finger open earlier in the day. It feels better today, and I'm actually able to use it to type a bit...so it must be healing...

Near the tail end of segment two, someone blasted a horn outside our window...it picked up on the recording, and I couldn't edit it out, so I left it, and my reaction, in...which leads to...

This weeks' Editing Room Treasure is the longest one we've aired so far...almost three minutes long...but it's worth it, IMHO. The first quickie is Kim having a momentary brain cramp about our e-mail address; the second is a longer clip that comes from the Noir show...Kim inadvertently substituted another Barbara's last name for Barbara Stanwyck's name at the beginning of segment two, and I lost it...and then came down with a HUGE case of the giggles...every time Kim said the words "Double Indemnity", I cracked up...it took us FOUR TAKES to get through the beginning of this segment, and by the end of it, Kim was getting a bit PO'ed, and it shows...but I couldn't help myself...it's one of those times where a word or phrase just sets you off and you can't stop yourself...

The movie where british actor David Suchet has hair isn't an indie film as I mentioned during segment two; it was actually the Albert Brooks movie The In-Laws...you can see a photo of Suchet with hair here.

I mentioned a bit about Marquee Mix during segment four and why the new version and site haven't debuted yet. Please listen and support internet radio. For full information on the impending doom of ALL internet radio, check out Radio And Internet Newsletter, which covers it in-depth, and also provides many links of sites where you can help us out. It's an important issue, and we need EVERYONE'S HELP to take a stand and survive as webcasters.

About BUM RUSH THE CHARTS...this campaign is EXTREMELY important to me and to the podcasting world in general. It takes place THIS THURSDAY, March 22.  If you value the future of music podcasting, please take the time to click the link at the top of the right sidebar and check it out. We need EVERYONE to take part in this because it's so important to the future of the entire music and podcasting industries. Please take the time to check it out.

Also, we're still in need of more Podtrac surveys to be done. We haven't reached that golden 20 surveys yet, and they won't even begin to submit us to advertisers until we reach that number, so if you haven't done it yet, PLEASE take the time out to do so. We need to start earning some funds from advertising, or from more donations, in order to continue to move to the next phase of growth. The last thing we want to do is stagnate, and there's SO MUCH we want to do to help improve our show and make it better. So please help us out, ok?

Please don't forget to Digg us whenever you get the chance, and Podshow Plus listeners, please do the same on the Podshow site. If you listen through Podcast Alley or I-Tunes, don't forget to comment and vote on the show! We need YOUR help; without you guys we would be nothing....

Next Week: Where The Boys And Girls Are - Spring Break at the Movies!

December 15, 2006

It's hard to believe how fast time flies....

It's hard to believe that it's been ten long years since I first locked eyes on an unusual program on the SciFi Channel called The Anti-Gravity Room. The show was a weekly magazine show focusing on comics and video games with a little other media -TV, Movies, etc - thrown in for spice.

AGR, as it's fans called it, was co-hosted by a skinny 15 year old named Nick Scoullar, along with Phil Guerrero. Nick was the reason my lady and I watched. For one thing, he knew his stuff when it came to comics - he was the co-creator of the show, and he turned us on to a ton of titles we'd have never heard of otherwise. For another thing, he seemed to get to hang out and interview the coolest people, like Kevin Smith. And yet another thing, we watched to see what color his hair would be each week. He went through half the shades Manic Panic offers every season. Blue, Purple, Red, Bleached blond...it could be anything.

I also thought then that if the stars aligned correctly, NIck was going to be a huge star....

Ten years have gone by, and I still think that, even though he's kept a very low profile since the show ended in 1998. He's now a college graduate who has been lucky enough to become a working actor. He recieved rave reviews for his role in the play Four when it played in Hartford a couple years back. My lady and I tried to get there, but circumstances prevented it. Too bad, we wanted to see how he was doing, and let him know we were still fans.

I recently stumbled across Nick on the web, and dropped him a line letting him know I was a long time fan. He was nice enough to write back and say "Thanks".

Nick is slowly embarking on a movie career these days as well; he stars in the upcoming independent feature release Manfred, and when it comes out, he will hopefully get the notice he deserves...and as I told him in that earlier e-mail, maybe it's time he hits his buddy Kevin Smith up for a part in his upcoming horror film...Nick's certainly the right demographic...

Happy 25th B-Day Nick!  Hope you look back as fondly on your earlier career as the two of us do...and here's hoping for bigger and better things for you as time goes on...
